  • Project Description

Anastocare is an at home symptom monitoring system used to detect post surgical complications in a remote setting. Utilizing a mobile application that pairs with a smart watch, the biometric data collected from the smart watch, like a patients heart rate, blood pressure, and EKG, can be analyzed and compared with patient responses to a daily symptoms test, and run against our predictive data model to determine the likelihood that that patient is experiencing a complication. Taking the cases of anastomosis leaks as our beachhead complication, our system can detect if a patient is experiencing a leak before more severe symptoms start to present, allowing them to receive treatment sooner and saving time, money, and lives. When expanded to other post surgical complications, such as embolism, thrombosis, or infection, our system will be able to constantly analyze the patients biometric data to determine if a complication occurs before the patient even notices something is wrong. In cases like these, the early detection of a severe complication can mean the difference between an easy recovery or a lifelong disability. Once a complication is detected, the patient and their physician are alerted, and they are directed to the hospital for immediate treatment and intervention. As outpatient recovery trends are increasing, the ability to monitor and detect life altering complications remotely is of the utmost importance and one of the most critical needs of an evolving healthcare field.

  • Why is the timing right for your idea?

With healthcare trends shifting towards more outpatient procedures and the influx of the need for telemedicine following the Covid-19 pandemic, the healthcare market is primed and eager for the next wave of remote patient monitoring products. As a growing number of surgeries are being moved to outpatient facilities and hospital recovery times are decreasing to increase turnover, the need for remote patient monitoring technologies is continually expanding, and the emergence of new biometric capabilities in household devices introduces a data set that can be utilized to more quickly and accurately detect life altering complications, allowing patients to receive much needed interventions sooner and making this market ripe for disruption.

  • What is your competitive advantage?

While most patient monitoring systems on the market focus on chronic disease management, our application of biometric capabilities and predictive analysis offers a competitive advantage, in that our system is one of the first on the market focused on the detection of acute health problems that are currently overlooked until it is too late. Instead of focusing only on disease management, our system can be applied to monitor patients for a number of different common post surgical complications, like embolism and thrombosis, allowing for earlier intervention and treatment. Without our product, patients have no choice but to wait for their complication to advance to a level where they risk permanent damage to their health or even death.

  • What will you do with $10,000?

We have currently raised enough money to create the first iteration of our app platform, so our next step will be recruiting patients and hospital systems to conduct beta testing of our product. This funding will be pivotal in our growth because it will allow us to market our product to local healthcare networks for key opinion leader testing and to gain participants and recognition for our beta testing and product. Additionally, this funding will be used to purchase the secure data servers necessary to house our collected patient data.
